Polishing is a sadly neglected skill at the level of mass production. Many transparent gems become so much more butyfull if the metal behind them highly polished, which in turns adds immeasurably to the overall refinement of the finished piece of jewelry. I spend many hours of somewhat tedious labor making sure that every surface is refined and glowing with metallic luster. I also insure that no edge is left crisp and thus I have become known for the sensual and tactile qualities of my jewelry creations.
